Preserving Portland’s First Brew Pub: Engineering a seismic retrofit for a landmark building
DCI Engineers provided structural design services for the historic preservation of this landmark building in Portland’s Pearl District.
- The vision of the retrofit was to open up the space. DCI accomplished this with a three-story steel movement-resisting space frame.
- Steel frame slices between the two wings of the brick structure, creating an atrium which draws daylight deep into the restaurant core.
- The new lounge and dining areas that were involved in the remodel were upgraded to current seismic standards, while still retaining the historic character of the original space.
