Nu Skin Provo Campus Expansion
Designing a "Nu" facility for the Nu Skin Headquarters: Engineering a world-class facility to reenergize downtown Provo, Utah
DCI Engineers provided the structural engineering design for this five-project expansion which includes the construction of a new, approximately 200-stall, single-story, underground parking garage on the north side of West 100 South Street. A new garden and plaza area was constructed over the garage lid to enhance the overall campus and provide a connection to the existing LDS church to the east. The building was also designed with a double glass wall ventilated façade on the second floor to keep it cooled in the hot summer and warm in the cold winters. There are reflecting pools around three sides of the building to give the feeling of the building being on an island of sorts.
- Supported laterally in one direction by a single concrete shear wall that sits on a post-tensioned concrete transfer beam spanning over the below grade garage below.
- In the other direction, the lateral system consists of long span (60ft) “special steel truss moment frames” supported by concrete filled pipe columns.
- The special steel truss moment frame system provides for an airy and open structure that allows you to see through the entire building.
