Meeting Sensitive Laboratory Vibration Criteria: Engineering new lab space for the University of Washington

DCI Engineers provided structural design services for this 111,000-sf, six-story, multi-disciplinary science building. This design-build project required special attention to laboratory vibration criteria and the needs of the end-use science researchers.

Project Highlights

  • Includes wet science laboratories and nanotechnology research space.
  • Structural frame designed for maximum vibration velocities of less than 2,000 micro inches per second.
  • Contains two levels of below-grade parking.
  • Structural solution utilizes shear walls for lateral bracing and conventional spread footings for support.
