Buder Haven and the Marilee

“What you see before you is the answer to the question: ‘What are we doing about homelessness in Spokane?’”

Monique Kolonko, associate director of Catholic Charities of Spokane

Housing First: Advocates help the chronically homeless with a place to stay

The Buder Haven & The Marilee are two supportive housing apartments devoted to the chronically homeless in Spokane. Each four-story building includes 50 one-bedroom units. Residents redeem local tax vouchers to accommodate their stay. Catholic Charities of Spokane maintains Buder Haven, while Volunteers of America maintains The Marilee.

DCI Engineers provided structural and civil engineering services for both buildings. The primary lateral and gravity framing systems are a combination of wood and steel. The civil engineers designed plans for the site’s grading, storm drainage, erosion control, water system, utility connections, and surrounding sidewalks.

Project Highlights

  • Construction was financed with a combination of state, city and private funds.
