Pre-Engineered Building: New bus fleet facility for school district
The Mead School District’s newly constructed one-story Transportation Building is a total of 23,400-sf with a mezzanine level. The project replaces their previous operation at a former school building. The new building accommodates the 90-employee maintenance crew and the district’s fleet of 110 buses.
DCI provided both primary structural and civil engineering designs for this project. The structural portion consisted of a pre-engineered metal building in the shop area with a conventionally steel framed administration portion attached to the front of the metal building. The structural team designed plans for the foundations of both portions. At the conventionally framed portion they also designed the steel beams, columns, and the lateral force resisting system of steel braced frames. Exterior walls consisted of light gauge studs with veneer at the administration portion and a partial height CMU wall at the metal building.
The civil team contributed to off-site improvements, such as road widening and frontage improvements on the north side of 4th Avenue. They also prepared the site for utility services and storm water facilities.
