TOTALLY TUBULAR ‘80S-THEMED GOLF TOURNAMENT

DCI hosted an annual end-of-summer golf tournament last month at Newcastle Golf Club to benefit Childhaven! 288 golfers from the A/E/C industries, plus 100 DCI and Childhaven staff, enjoyed a day of golf and fundraising activities. Out of town DCI staff came from offices in Anchorage, Alaska; Spokane, Washington; Missoula, Bozeman, and Kalispell, Montana; San Francisco; and Los Angeles. Berntson Porter & Company, PLLC, the tournament’s returning premier sponsor, allowed the event to be held on both courses for the entire day again. 30 additional tournament sponsors contributed to making the event possible.

This year’s tournament celebrated the style and pop culture of the 1980s – a nod to the decade when DCI opened its doors for business in Washington state. Some guests and DCI staff were dressed for the part, including founders Mark D’Amato and Guy Conversano! The registration area featured scenes from popular movies of the decade, such as Caddyshack, ET, and Back to the Future. A rented DeLorean was even parked at bag drop for guests to pose for pictures. Plenty of nostalgic hit songs were played by the DJ and master of ceremonies. The two photobooth tents on both courses were titled “Be in a Hairband.” Guests tried on mullet wigs and held inflatable guitars next to a concert stage backdrop for more picture-taking opportunities.

During the awards and live auction banquet, DCI COO and Childhaven board member Roger Heeringa spoke to the audience and introduced Childhaven’s CEO Jon Botten. He reiterated how donors in the audience help the non-profit be a successful and meaningful community resource since 1909. This year’s fundraising efforts produced about $35K for Childhaven’s programs.
