Cotton Court

Southern Charm: Destination boutique hotel appeals to Lubbock visitors

Resembling a rustic Texan cotton gin, Cotton Court is a southern boutique hotel helping the City of Lubbock’s revitalization and tourism efforts. The seven building development includes 165 rooms, a swimming pool, restaurant & bar, and event ballroom. The distinctive main building is a mass timber structure wrapped with brick veneer and features a cantilevered lobby level and an external freestanding steel and mass timber stair tower. Five buildings contain conventional wood framed systems. DCI Engineers simplified the overall structural design for ease of construction, coordination efficiency, and adhering to the client’s budget.

Project Highlights

  • The use of mass timber in the main building allowed the framing design to have fewer lumber support members.
  • Exposed wood framing adds to the hotel’s vintage aesthetic, especially for the outdoor corridors.
  • Amenities include a swimming pool, event ballroom, and restaurant.
  • The engineering team accommodated structural spacing for a continuous run of AC ductwork through six buildings.
