CubeSmart & Upper Merion Township Emergency Service Station #56

The Odd Couple: New combination fire house and storage facility comes to the Village at Valley Forge

This public-private partnership takes the concept to new heights with Upper Merion Township’s new fire and emergency services station getting built onto the ground floor of a for-rent storage facility, located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania’s Village at Valley Forge. The combination CubeSmart-Upper Merion Fire & EMS has six floors of storage on top of a 10,000-sf fire station. The spaces are separated with a steel transfer slab and three-hour fire-rating walls. The project came together when the leaders of the township encouraged developers to integrate the two facilities rather than design-build a single-use facility.

I appreciate the collaboration process of what we do. There are so many different people in different disciplines—contractors, architects, developers, owners, engineers—that are taking a concept, an idea that is sketched-out, and turning it into a physical piece of the built environment.”
