Elsewhere Brooklyn is a multi-room music venue, nightclub and arts space in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The space opened in 2017 and hosts three stories of dance floors and stages, as well as a rooftop bar and live music stage.
The existing 1930s two-story plus partial cellar and roof warehouse building was fully renovated and reinforced and a new 40-foot-tall extension was built in the rear over a footprint of approximately 90'x59'. The space was designed to be column free, and the roof was supported by two steel trusses.
Another extension was built in a side yard, and a new covered exterior staircase was built to provide direct access to the rooftop space. A new partial cellar extension was excavated and constructed below the existing building. The steel structures are supported by a combination of timber and helical piles.

Creating a building brings together a lot of people with different backgrounds who may not otherwise have anything to do with each other. As an engineer you get to interact with all these people, sometimes in the same day, and, ideally, you should be able to communicate effectively with all of them; and, let’s be honest, we didn’t go to engineering school because we were amazing communicators.
While there’s something to gleaning technical knowledge and insight from your engineering peers, there’s a wealth of diverse experiences, personalities and perspectives that come out of all the people and trades involved in putting together ‘their’ building.”
