One Anchorage office covers a state twice the size of Texas, so this team does everything: a five-story building one week, a single-family home the next, roughly half in Anchorage and half in rural communities reachable only by plane. It is engineering with challenges few offices face, designing on permafrost, for major earthquakes, and for some of the highest wind loads in the country, and the team has particular, hands-on experience with structural inspections for seismic damage. The group is small and independent, experienced engineers working next to people fresh out of school, and they get out together often, a standing monthly lunch and a distinctly Alaskan summer tradition, from a 26 Glacier cruise out of Whittier to fishing charters and a hike up Alyeska.
