Portland attracts environmentally conscious, outdoorsy, “keep-it-local-and-weird” enthusiasts who appreciate the diverse landscape and entrepreneurial spirit Oregon has to offer. The residents here are known for their casual, laid-back attitude who prefer to bike to work rather than drive. Downtown Portland’s skyline is intentionally lined with few high-rises, readapted historic buildings, and connecting bridges. The surrounding neighborhoods take pride in preserving their unique characteristics and community vibe.

In 1998, DCI established a presence in the City of Roses to better serve Oregon clients and AEC professionals. Since then, 20+ employees have done wonders for the city and state in terms of construction engineering, demolition, renovation, multi-family residential housing, commercial, sustainable design, and much more. The team’s talent did not go unnoticed as they were ranked “Engineering Firm of the Year” by DJCOregon in 2018. Principal Shirley Chalupa, recognized as a “Woman of Vision” by DJCOregon, leads the Portland team now. Principal Damon Smith heads the civil team, while Ethan Martin is Director of Sustainability and Mass Timber. Together they are mentoring a new generation of engineers and project managers who want to make a difference in their hometown and beyond. The DCI Portland team often visits the Seattle office for project collaboration and client meetings.
