Designing for Unique Municipal Features: Accommodating council chambers and a cantilevered staircase in a government building
DCI Engineers provided civil and structural design services for this 158,000-sf government building that features council chambers, administration space, and underground parking. End-use tenants include local, state, and federal agencies.
Basic structure is comprised of a steel framed building with composite beams sitting on a post-tensioned transfer slab.
Designed a plate girder to transfer out four levels of load above a two-story tall council chamber.
Included design that laterally supports the feature stair that cantilevers laterally out from the structure at an angle of 26’.
Civil services included design and permit documents for storm water drainage and runoff control, under-slab drains, external sewer, domestic and fire and water services, and right-of-way street improvements.
