Vanguard Academy

Real World Learning: Moses Lake school offers project-based learning

involving collaborative group learning and a focus on professional trade skills. Instead of traditional classrooms and corridors, the facility includes an interactive commons area called the Marketplace for seminar-type learning, which can be modified into smaller “breakout” spaces. The second floor includes a music lab, arts studio, and fitness area. The academy can accommodate 700 to 900 students.

Project Highlights

  • Steel braced frames create long-span open areas for the school’s Marketplace and shared common spaces.
  • When the design for the second floor changed to include large tiles, the engineers modified the floor design to accommodate loads for the added weight of leveling compound.

I’ve always appreciated the ‘work hard/play hard’ mentality at DCI, the team approach to determining innovative and cost-effective design and helping our clients achieve successful projects. I also cherish the many friendships that I’ve been so lucky to find with our clients, employees, and other consultants within the construction industry.”
