Drexel University selected Vitetta and DCI+MacINTOSH to assess and upgrade the roof and skylight systems above the Great Hall. The project began with the assessment of the roof structure and the steel skylight support framing above the laylight. The team analyzed the skylight trusses for both temporary construction staging loads as well as the loads imposed by the new skylight system. The atrium skylight (originally built in 1891) had fallen into disrepair and required total replacement with a new, more reliable system. The new skylight allowed for the interior ceiling restoration to proceed in the Great Court, and supported proper stormwater drainage and reliable protection of the building’s internal elements.
I love to solve problems – Sudoku puzzles, crosswords, cryptograms, brain teasers. Then, there’s combining problem solving with math, drawings and construction that is our trade by nature. By never settling for ‘cookie cutter’ solutions, but instead developing tailored engineering designs specific to each project… well, that makes for a very rewarding career.”
