I enjoy the collaboration and flexibility that DCI encourages. Being able to tap into different perspectives and experiences from engineers across all our regional offices, while being trusted to apply my own creativity, gives me the confidence to tackle any design challenge.”

Kyle Loria has been with DCI his entire professional career. While earning his Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering and playing NCAA volleyball for the University of California, San Diego men’s team, Kyle was an intern at the firm’s San Diego office his junior and senior years.

Trading California sunshine and surf for the cloud-covered geography of the Pacific Northwest, Kyle moved to the Seattle area and was hired on full time where he has since provided design solutions for concrete and steel high-rise developments, retrofit projects, wood podiums and more. Kyle has worked nearly 2,900 hours on a single steel framed project on more than one occasion, which has led to his role as co-chair of DCI’s in-house Steel Committee.

When he’s not taking in the panoramic views on site visits, Kyle is out hiking, skiing, mountain biking and taking photos of his own panoramic vistas.

What was your favorite class in college?
That one I always skipped when the surf was good, I think it was ECON 1.

What is your dream project location?
Winthrop, Washington… hopefully the project is my future cabin.

If you weren’t an engineer, what you be?
A professional singer, that only sings in the car, and no one else is allowed to listen to… or a photojournalist.
